Lycanthropy?

Festival Director — Tue, 2008-04-15 00:05
Undead is a collective name for beings that are deceased yet behave as if alive. Undead may be spiritual, such as ghosts, or corporeal, such as vampires and zombies.
But what about Lycanthropy... they seem to be immortal but not really undead.
Romanian folklore actually has multiple variations on the lycanthropy that leaves them not easily differentiated from the undead.
So what is a poor festival director to do?

Edward Martin III — Fri, 2008-04-18 05:16Historically, lycanthropy is just a curse or disease. it's a deal you make with a spiritual creature, "the great gray shape." You can still easily be killed and you usually stay dead.
Werewolf GHOSTS are popular in some folklore, though. I would think ghost stories are more like undead than lycanthropes.
That said, however, I'm always up for a good werewolf story. ;)

Edward Martin III — Mon, 2008-04-21 21:41In most of the historical stories I've read, lycanthropy is ASKED for -- you have to beg the spirits to give it to you. It's a gift.
For all its flaws, I'm glad "Wolf" explored some of that, the pleasure of becoming a lycanthrope. I wish more movies did that.
