My Possible Picks for 2009

Festival Director — Sun, 05/11/2008 - 21:21
Here are some of the films I am thinking about:
- Martin (really a mixed up kid)
- The Cemetery Man
- Dawn of the Dead (original)
- Kiss of the Vampire (Hammer)
- Undead (2004)
- Shawn of the Dead
- Lifeforce
I like something old, something new, something classic.

Mentioned this one in a
Bigmac64 — Sat, 05/17/2008 - 21:02Mentioned this one in a different thread, but what about Dead and Breakfast? Funny, some good gore and singing zombies. What more do you need?
I do like the idea of Martin, coupled with a classic vampire tale. Definitely show Dawn of the Dead, maybe with something lighter (see above).
I'd support a longer festival (like noon to midnight), if you think you can do it. Of course, that might be asking too much, but just a thought.
I have to admit to still
loopback — Thu, 05/15/2008 - 16:52I have to admit to still having not seen Martin, so I'd love to see that wind up on the docket for next year.
Vampire Circus was one of the best films of the festival for '08, so I think having a Hammer Film every year is almost a must-have for the old-school vampire & zombie lover in all of us.
Shawn of the Dead would probably bring in the crowds, but I have to wonder at just how recent it is, and if it's "too new" to bring in, since everyone probably has it in their DVD collections, and there isn't a huge sense of that being a movie that you have to see on the big screen.
Lifeforce, though, is endless awesome and should be shown at every film festival, regardless of theme, forever. heh.
Undead was kind of a neutral film to me when I saw it, although the twist was good and unexpected.
A Hammer zombie film . . . ?
Mail Order Zombie — Tue, 05/13/2008 - 19:28You know, if you want to switch it up and bring in a Hammer zombie film, "Plague of the Zombies" is a solid flick (it's one of my favorite non-Romero zombie flicks!) . . . you don't get all the . . . um . . . cleavage you normally get in a Hammer vampire film, but it's still great . . .
(trying...)

Great picks
specialj — Mon, 05/12/2008 - 13:55You've got my 2 favorite zombie movies of all time: Cemetery Man and the original Dawn of the Dead. I showed Cemetery Man in a private screening a few years back. It went over well, though the audience was perhaps a little too drunk to fully appreciate some of the depth of the film.
I've heard people suggest Shaun of the Dead and that would be a good draw I bet. If it can bring some fresh blood to the festival that would be great.
One other film I would suggest would be Nightbreed. I think that's a great match for the festival because its protagonists are undead, some of whom are more fast-moving zombie like (the berserkers) and some of whom are more vampire like (sexy, seductive). And ultimately the message is one that I think would resonate with the zompire crowd. I also screened that one a while back and the audience was really into the film by the end.
Of course, with all these good feature films I'd still like to see 2 blocks of shorts instead of just 1 like this year. I'd also like to see a few of the better shorts from years past in the mix. I think it would be great to get some feedback from people about which shorts they would like to see again.
The original "Dawn of the
Mail Order Zombie — Mon, 05/12/2008 - 14:26The original "Dawn of the Dead" is a must-see for any self-respecting zombie film fan, and to play it, especially if you can land Mr. Foree as a guest, would be INCREDIBLE.
I love "Martin" as well . . . It's definitely a different take on the vampire story, and if you can land a particular director as a future guest . . . Could play VERY well . . . :)
"Cemetery Man" would be a great film to show, especially since there's been some noise lately about a proper film adaptation of "Dylan Dog" on the way.
"Shaun of the Dead" would bring in the crowds for sure . . .
I love pretty much all the Hammer films, so anything Hammer and vampires would be awesome.
"Undead" - I don't remember liking how this one ended, but it's still fun . . .
"Lifeforce" - HAHAHAhahahaha . . . I haven't seen this one in YEARS . . . ! It could be fun to revisit it . . .
