My name is Matt Allen, and I'll be travelling out for the festival to support a film. I'd like to meet as many of the local film folks as possible while in Portland, and wanted to know which hotel would be best to stay at RE proximity to fest, schmoozers, dive bars w/pool table, etc?

The closest one to the Theatre is called The Banfield (not expensive at all). It is conveniently walking distance to: The Hollywood Theatre, tons of pubs, fast food, restaurants and the liquor store. *smiles*
