In this action-packed horror flick from director Robert Rodriguez and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino, a brother criminal team named Seth and Richie Gecko (George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino) commit a string of robberies leaving a river of blood in their wake. To escape the law they head to Mexico kidnaping preacher Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel), and his two children, Kate (Juliette Lewis) and Scott (Ernest Liu). Once south of the border, they hold up in a rough-and-tumble trucker bar called The Titty Twister, where Seth and Richie are meeting a local crime thug. After a few drinks, they realize that the bar is a trap to supply food to a nest of vicious, blood-sucking vampires.

Seth: And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because I don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what I saw is fucking vampires!

Two films in one...

this is really two films... the first half is a crime drama with the second half clearly kicking in too high gear with the Vampire lair/bar battle. The matte shot at the end make the whole film worth the experience.

Funny thing... I saw this in the theatre when it came out and somehow avoided all the buzz around it. I had NO idea it was a vampire movie. I thought I was just going to watch a Tarantino flick. For the first half of the movie I was all "Yeah, typical Tarantino". Boy was I in for a shock. I think I made all the people in the audience (who obviously knew they were watching a vampire film) snicker. Loved this movie experience... so rare I get shocked, truly shocked.

That was pretty much my experience as well.

Same thing happened with "Predator." I never saw a trailer for it, and missed the opening spaceship scene, so I had no idea it was a sci-fi movie until deep into it.
