Dawn of the Dead [2004]
ALIVE INSIDE: A nurse, a policeman, a gang member, his wife, a salesman, and a handful of survivors seek refuge in a Midwestern shopping mall from a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies. Fast zombies, slow humans, painful tension, a cameo from Tom Savini and Ken Foree, twitchers, and a compellingly bleak portrayal of a total societal breakdown makes this re-make a must see.

Mall of the Dead
Festival Director — Mon, 05/12/2008 - 20:56I would have been down for a different name like Mall of the Dead or something... now you always have to qualify the title e.g. the original or the re-make or dawn of the dead [2004].
Someone should make Dan of the Dead.
It would have been better...
Edward Martin III — Mon, 05/12/2008 - 13:47...if it hadn't been named "Dawn of the Dead", but something else (how about "Shop 'Til You Drop!") completely unrelated, and then in the middle of the first act, one of the characters burst out in insane giggling and declares "Oh man, this is JUST like Dawn of the Dead!"
My favorite character was Andy, and I wasn't alone in thinking that. When he holds up the blood-streaked sign, the whole audience made a very sympathetic murmur. That's a character we wanted to see live, dammit.
I guess there were other character-like entities on screen, but when they died, either people cheered or they made no noise at all.
So, I'm voting Andy as the best character in the movie. Nothing else makes sense, man.
great film

I loved the original... used
Rowan Ashe — Mon, 04/21/2008 - 14:21I loved the original... used to hang out in the mall it was made in... so the remake scares me -- in a way I imagine it was not meant to.
