Yes before Peter Jackson made Lord of the Rings he created a few horror gems like this one. A zoologist traps a rare rat monkey on Skull Island and brings it back to New Zealand with the local Maoris hot on his trail. Later, a young man falls in love and takes the young woman to the zoo, followed by his overbearing and disapproving mother hot on their trail. The mother gets bitten by the rat monkey. The monkey's bite turns her into a zombie, and her doting son soon has to keep her (and the growing number of others she's bitten) tranquilized in the basement while still trying to preserve his love life.
